Respiratory Services

The Respiratory Department at Eaton Rapids Medical Center can perform a variety of procedures and treatments for patients. Even if your physician has ordered a test at another facility, you can enjoy the convenience of having the procedure in Eaton Rapids. Below is a summary of some the procedures available:

Pulmonary Function Test

Pre & Post Flow Volume Loop/Spirometry

Measures patient’s basic lung volumes and flows before and after a bronchodialator medication treatment and compares the results to normal values.

Basic/Screen Flow Volume Loop/Spirometry

Measures patient’s basic lung volumes and flows and compares them to normal values.

Lung Diffusion Capacity/Carbon Monoxide (DLCO)

Provides information about how easily gas travels between the lungs (alveoli) and the blood stream (pulmonary capillary blood flow)

*Test also requires an order for a Basic Hemoglobin Measurement for test accuracy.

Lung Volumes with FRC (Functional Residual Capacity)

Measures lung volumes and capacities not measured with routine Spirometry including the Residual Volume which is the air remaining in the lungs after maximal expiration.

Cardiology and Vascular Services

EKG (ECG) (Electrocardiogram)

Evaluates hearts function by measuring the electrical impulses that stimulate the heart to contract from 12 different views.

Cardiac Treadmill Stress Test/Basic

Evaluates the hearts function by measuring the electrical impulses that stimulate the heart to contract before, during and after exercise from 12 different views.

Holter Monitor 24 hour study

Evaluates the hearts function by measuring the electrical impulses that stimulate the heart to contract while wearing the monitor for a 24 hour period on an outpatient basis while doing normal daily activities.

Echocardiogram with Doppler (ECHO)

Images of the heart obtained through a microphone-like device called a transducer which sends and receives ultrasound and doppler waves that bounce off the various parts of the heart. Helps reveal heart size, pumping strength, heart valve function as well as other information.

Vascular Services

Carotid Doppler

Images the large arteries in the neck (Carotid Arteries) by using microphone like device called a transducer that sends and receives doppler waves.

Venous Doppler

Images the veins and their blood flow, usually in the leg(s) but in certain circumstances the arm(s), utilizing a microphone like device called a transducer that sends and receives doppler waves.

Arterial Doppler

Images the arteries and their blood flow, usually in the leg(s) but in certain circumstances the arm(s), utilizing a microphone like device called a transducer that sends and receives doppler waves.

Nuclear Cardiology

Stress Cardiolite Treadmill without RNA

Images of the heart are taken utilizing a radioactive substance called a tracer (Cardiolite) before and after exercise on a treadmill. During the exercise portion the electrical impulses that stimulate the heart to contract are also evaluated. The test is especially useful in diagnosing coronary heart disease.

Persantine (Pharmocologic)Stress Cardiolite without RNA.

Images of the heart are taken utilizing a radioactive substance called a tracer (Cardiolite) before and after an infusion of a drug (Persantine) that has a similar effect on the heart as exercise. During the exercise portion electrical impulses that stimulate the heart to contract are also evaluated. The test is especially useful in diagnosing coronary heart disease in patients who are unable to exercise on a treadmill adequately.

Rest Muga Scan

Heart wall motion effectiveness is evaluated with the patient at rest utilizing a radioactive tracer substance called Cardiolite.
